A chill fishing idler game that sits in the corner of your screen. Play at your own pace as you work on other tasks! Buy upgrades to your rod and bait to catch even bigger and better fish! But in other ways, the game manages to evoke strangely real and familiar emotions. Once, in the middle of answering an email, a chirp alerted me that a real whopper was on the line. A meter indicated it would take 900 clicks to successfully reel it in. This was a massive fish—an absolute barn door. I knew my rod wasn’t upgraded enough for the fight, but I clicked as quickly as I could anyway. As the leviathan slipped away, I found myself crunching numbers to see how much I’d need to gear up to nab the beast if and when I meet him again. Kingdom’s Deck
This is the first one of those “sits on your desktop in a transparent window” games i’ve purchased, mainly because to me they look a bit lacking in depth and things to do, even for an idle game. Cornerpond does not really address this issue, but as a game themed around fishing it feels a lot more fitting considering “sitting around doing nothing” is how it works in real life too! That being said, I kind of find myself wishing that it had more going on- there’s no seasons or weather, bait doesn’t affect what fish you can catch, time of day doesn’t matter either (could have been fun with some system clock shenanigans). Nevertheless, I like the simple tapping minigame, the presentation and sound design is very cute, and the QOL settings are very nice.
