The Republic of Galbadia, under the influence of the sorceress Edea, mobilises its great armies against the other nations of the world. Squall and other members of SeeD, an elite mercenary force, join hands with Rinoa, a resistance fighter, to fight against Galbadia’s tyrannical rule and to prevent Edea from fulfilling her ultimate goal. This product is a remaster of FINAL FANTASY VIII, featuring multiple enhancements including additional options to customise your gameplay experience and difficulty, such as FFVIII is usually considered one of the weaker entries of the entire Final Fantasy series (although some fans usually put it as their utmost favorite) so I avoided it for quite some time, specially since the setting never looked that interesting due to the world building leaning more onto Sci-Fi themes and less fantasy (akin to XIII), but fortunately both things were a bit far from being the truth and in the end I was able to leave with a great impression of the game. The game offers some great challenging bosses in the side content and even some interesting puzzles where you have to link some clues and think for a bit that have a bit meat more than the usual basic setup of getting item A and delivering on point B, which would be great to see the return of these to the most recent titles. The graphics still hold up really well due to the use of full-sized characters everywhere that even are present during some in-game cutscenes where you are part of the action, plus the numerous FMVs – the remaster doesn’t really improve anything in comparison to the original but still a decent and straightforward way to access and play the game.
