It’s about time Mario & Luigi: Brothership Switch NSP Video Game threw a huge wrench into the peaceful lives of the two very famous plumber siblings who were unintentionally drawn into a new realm for a brand-new adventure together over ten years ago. The brothers must restore the flow of energy and trade among the enormous network of islands in the nation of Concordia. In this role-playing game, the entire archipelago has been cut off from its source of power, and it is not Princess Peach who has to be saved. Let me start by saying that I found Brothership to be really adorable. From the more obvious socket-faced NPCs and the bros’ adorable navigator Snoutlet to the smaller flourishes that caught my attention when I looked more closely, like the jumper-cable design of an enemy Snaptor bird, Brothership’s steadfast devotion to its voltaic motif was obviously extremely carefully considered, despite the fact that water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Even Mario and Luigi’s incredibly hammy reaction animations, such as their massive “no” gestures during discussions, their enthusiastic dances for one another upon leveling up, and their beefing of their landings after being shot out of Shipshape’s cannon, are examples of the attention to detail. In all honesty, those were some of my favorite little moments that showcase Brothership’s joyful sense of humor, which is both warm and refreshing—especially when viewed on a TV screen rather than a portable console.
