The Citadel, the last stronghold of mankind’s resistance against the Apocalypse, has fallen. Humankind is now under the control of the Trumpeters of the Apocalypse, the leaders of the forces of the Apocalypse. The “Martyr” who is the last resort of the Seven Angels, the guardians of humankind, is led by a mysterious signal and sets out on a journey to overthrow the Trumpeters of the Apocalypse. Beyond Citadel is a single-player FPS inspired by the FPS classics of the 90’s, featuring anime style 2.5D graphics and realistic gunplay mechanics. Beyond Citadel is a much more in depth evolution of the original Citadel game featuring a far more detailed weapon system, for example manual action firearms need to be cycled by the player with each shot, there are separate buttons to drop your mag, cycle the action, and reinsert your mag, realistic jam clearing where the mag has to be removed and the action cycled until the jam is cleared, and tube fed firearms need each round individually loaded.
This allows the player to reload and clear jams as fast as their skill allows them to, without having them sit through a lengthy reload animation. Lots of games have jammable weapons, and very realistic reload animations, but what makes this indie boomer shooter so special is the nearly complete player control over their weapons. I am seriously impressed with the attention to detail with the loading and unloading of weapons as well as other features like magazine retention, and I think it is this game’s strongest feature.
