After the death of his mother, Tomoya Okazaki—a guarded delinquent student at Hikarizaka High School—struggles to not only make sense of the abusive relationship he has with his alcoholic father, but also find meaning in his life. While on his way to class one morning, he meets a mystifying girl named Nagisa Clannad is a weird VN to me, because it manages to have so many high and low points at the same time. A big part of it is made up of a very hit-or-miss slice of life story and I was sometimes confused why it has the high rating it does. Then once you have managed to see all of the slice of life things (and probably have had to find a guide online to achieve that) you finally reach the after story, which deserves all the praise it gets. Over the years, I’ve moved Clannad around in the top of my favorite pieces of media ever, sometimes wondering if it really was still even my #1 as things like Little Busters, or Summer Pockets came around that I thought could possibly contend with it for the position as my favorite piece of media ever made. But after experiencing this story again, I can confidently say that no matter what comes in the future, nothing will ever take Clannad down from the rank of my favorite thing ever.
