Dead Cells is a roguelite, metroidvania inspired, action-platformer. You’ll explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle… assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers in 2D souls-lite combat. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat Dead Cells puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what’s happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed Island. Immortal but crippled, your last resort is to take over bodies in order to move, explore… and fight. Tight, addicting, fast-paced combat that’s punishing if you don’t keep up with its rhythm. Environments are very pretty but you often don’t get too see much of it as most of the time you’ll rather be blazing through the level trying to get to the end. Mon Bazou

Either that, or you’ve seen so much of it (roguelite, remember?) that all you can focus on is efficiency. Efficiency. It’s a fickle thing that the game demands for, but that efficiency can oftentimes be a detriment to your enjoyment of the game—efficiency in Dead Cells means going through the same specific set of biomes to get the most amount of cells and power scrolls possible, which leads to fighting the same bosses over and over again, choosing the same weapon and skills with the same stats, etc etc. The biome’s enemies only have variety through different difficulties, often adding one or two new enemies with each new Boss Cell collected.
