This game is fantastic, for decades people have added for pokemon to make a more grown up story with actual high stakes and danger unfortunately pokemon has failed to do so and this is where digimon has hit that niche and done it incredibly well.
A lot of the negative reviews come of people not being able to read, this is a VN RPG hybrid its more like 60% reading, 40% combat with difficulty options making combat quite easy if you want so you can get back to the kids being picked off one by one by the enemy. The issue with combat is each monster has one simple attack and one or two unique attacks, leveling up doesnt give you different attacks instead evolving or devolving changes your available attacks starting from basic to ranged to AOE. You have two skill slots for each digimon that you can either use as stat boosts or attacks towards the end of the game these get ridiculously powerful. Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days
