NieR: Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines. Humanity has been driven from the Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to take back the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on… A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth of the world. One of the most beautiful and sad stories i’ve experienced in games thus far with a very satisfing combat on top of it. i highly recommend that everyone experiences this piece of art in the form of a game my themselves without spoilers from outside if possible. I spent most of my playthrough holding down the shooting button, mashing the sword button, and occasionally jumping/dashing out of the way of enemy attacks. Call of Duty World at War

Difficulty settings will not save you– easy/medium trivialize all combat, while hard/very hard turn enemies into huge sponges that kill you in 1-2 hits. It’s a shame, because tweaking a few numbers would have solved this issue. And on paper, this game should have felt phenomenal. There are tons of scripted sequences where the camera zooms around you cinematically, changing the gameplay from its core combat to a 2D hack-and-slash, to a twin-stick shooter, etc. It looks insanely cool, but sadly gets repetitive and is just not very fun. If you can stomach the combat, or even manage to enjoy it, then NieR: Automata is sure to leave a lasting impact on you.
