Vampire Survivors is a time survival game with minimalistic gameplay and roguelite elements. Hell is empty, the devils are here, and there’s no place to run or hide. All you can do is survive as long as you can until death inevitably puts an end to your struggles. Gather gold in each run to buy upgrades and help the next survivor. The supernatural indie phenomenon that lets you be the bullet hell! Vampire Survivors was engineered to be a dopamine factory. The sound: weapon launch, weapon hit, XP gem pick up, level up, opening a chest; all give amazing feedback. All the damage numbers, XP bar filling out at the top of the screen, XP gems being vacuumed into your character. Every single thing you see and hear injects dopamine into your brain. Supposedly the game’s creator formerly worked in the gambling industry, and decided to make a game that used all of the psychological manipulation tactics that make gambling so exciting, minus the risk of crippling addiction and financial ruin. This explains a lot. I love how the game allows you to tailor the challenge to your liking. There are characters and weapons which are absurdly overpowered, as well as weaklings and pea shooters. You can mix and match them as you like, even upgrade the worst characters with Golden Eggs to absolutely ridiculous levels. All by design.
